23 March, 2023
An exciting addition to the Youth International Archery Tournaments calendar has been organised by the International School Sports Federation (ISF). The 2nd ISF U15 GYMNASIADE 2023 World School Sport Games, to be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from the 19th to the 27th of August 2023.
As one of the most recent creations in the ISF calendar, the ISF U15 Gymnasiade is an important step for the ISF in addressing younger student-athletes, providing increased opportunities for youth from an earlier age. The ISF believes that providing such opportunities from as early an age as possible is crucial in establishing a healthy lifestyle, acquiring, and developing leadership skills, discovering competencies whilst also gaining a better understanding of the world, a combination of sporting excellence, and educational growth, alongside an explosion of culture and celebration in a vibrant nation enriched with a strong history of sporting achievement.
This event is open to athletes who are born in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, essentially at Secondary School. The archery competition is for both Compound and Recurve. Both shoot at 40m, with compound on the 80cm face and recurve on the 122cm face. This shooting distance has only very recently been changed, it was originally 60m as published in the attached bulletin but Archery Nationals Sporting Organisations worldwide were very concerned so it has been reduced. Because of this, there has been an extension to the preliminary application date, it is now the 15th of April 2023.
An email will be sent out shortly to all Archery NZ members whose birthdays fit the criteria. The email contains more information including Bulletin 1 - ISF U15 Gymnasiade.
