Recent Major Change to World Archery Equipment Failure Rules

8 August, 2022

As of the 18th of July 2022, for all future events, judges are once again able to give 15 minutes for the resolution of equipment failures and medical issues.

This includes being able to make up arrows lost as a result of the problem for up to:

  • 2 end of 6 arrows,
  • 3 ends of 3 arrow,
  • or 15 minutes,

whichever is shortest.

Note that time will not be given:

  • If the judge determines that the problem is NOT a valid equipment failure or medical issue,
  • During any match play event (individual, mixed team, or teams),
  • For World Ranking Events (e.g.: WA World Cups/Championships),
  • For multisport events (e.g.: Olympics, World Masters Games, Pacific Games, etc.).

For NZ, this is practically identical to the way the rules worked prior to January this year.

Full details on the new rule can be found in WA Book 3 Rule 12.2.3, from your local judge, or from us in the Technical Support Committee.

Note: WA Field Rounds remain unchanged; with 30 minutes allowed for equipment failures and medical issues (WA Book 4 Rule 24.5).

Best of luck for the remainder of the indoor season!

Happy shooting,

Technical Support Committee
