Archery to be ‘Official Sport’ of World Masters Games 2017

Archery joins 27 other sports codes as one of 28 announced as an ‘Official Sport’ of World Masters Games 2017.

Mike Ashburn, President of Archery NZ said he was absolutely delighted for Archery to be selected as a sport for World Masters Games 2017.  “The Games will provide Archery with an exceptional opportunity to showcase our sport to people throughout New Zealand and overseas,” said Ashburn.   “It will also be fantastic for Archery to be yet again part of such a major multi sport event alongside so many other sporting codes.”

Sports were selected following a comprehensive bid process which Ashburn said will stand Archery in good stead to ensure they are well and truly organized and ready to deliver the highest standard event for their athletes.  “During the next two years and 10 months we will work closely with World Masters Games 2017 to provide the Archery competitors with a great experience on and off the field of play

While the final sports programme is still to be finalised, Archery will offer target, indoor and field competitions. “We are particularly delighted to be offering outdoor and indoor competitions for Para Archers,” said Mike Ashburn. “Despite the legacy of the late Neroli Fairhall, there have been very few Para Archers in the last five or so years, so hopefully this tournament will encourage more to participate.”
