2013 World Games, Cali, Columbia
World Games, Cali, Columbia - 25-28 July 2013
Some excellent shooting in hot conditions at the target event at the World Games in Cali, Colombia resulted in new records and PBs for a number of compound archers.
Barbara Scott was our sole representative, with the one Womens Compound spot being won for New Zealand at the Oceania and Commonwealth Championships held in Whitianga in November 2012, by Elizabeth Ellery-Siaosi. Elizabeth was unable to attend so Barbara was selected in her place.
In a field of 23 archers Barbara ranked 13th with a very good score of 679. Erika Jones (USA) ranked first with a new world record of 704. Incredibly, in the Mens Compound the top eleven archers shot either 700 or above.
The individual matchplay eliminations through to the semi-finals were also held on the same day. Despite Barbara’s best efforts, her opponent from Chinese Taipei, I-Jou Huang ranked 20th, won the match 141-137. A number of top archers who were expected to go further were eliminated in the early stages, but the USA archers showed their dominance again with Erika Jones and Reo Wilde winning gold in their respective divisions, as well as the mixed team’s gold medal.
