League Newsletter - February 2010

Hi Everyone and a very much belated Happy New Year

So, how did we do over Christmas? Too much turkey and mince pies or did we retain our commitment and put in some high scores?

First for the bad news, the hectic New Year schedule resulted in our first defaults of the season and neither Dunedin nor Rotorua managed to put in a team score. And how one little slip changes things! Each of those teams are now propping up their respective divisions despite all having put in higher scores than the next team up in the first two months. So it is commiserations to them, or rather congratulations to Shore and Trentham for having got together a team to submit a score!

On a brighter note, Mountain Green continue to lead the premier division with what I believe is another new national team record of 2603. With only one loss a piece Auckland and Rosebank closely follow but both have yet to meet Mountain Green which means that Gisborne and Christchurch still have much to play for, just a point behind these two.

In Division 2 Norfolk Island continue to impress with a n’other new club record of 2424 adding to an unblemished 2009/10 season. Still in close contention are Auckland B, snapping at their heals (despite having to rely on a couple of compounders to make up their score Alex!). As mentioned previously, Dunedin drop to the bottom of the division having returned a nil score for the Christmas period.

A resurgent River Glade continue to dominate Division 3, with Wanganui now close on their heels. Rotorua, who were in second place after the first couple of months, demonstrate how easy it is to slip and with no score this month are now propping up this division. And you can’t blame the compounders Richard, not if you were off diving for cray’s (unless that is you have one for me?).

With a new club record of 2417, Randwick take over the lead of Division 4 from Manawatu. These two teams are closely followed by Mana. The Dunedin B team, a no show for Dec/Jan, take over the role of propping up this division from Trentham who, despite suffering “not ideal shooting weather”, grabbed an opportunity on a Sunday when things weren’t as bad as they had been and turned in a score.

The Gisborne B team continue to lead Division 5, which is the most hotly contested division. And, with a grand total of 1609 points separating the first and last placed teams in this division, there are a number of teams clearly ready, able and just waiting for those in the upper divisions to make a single slip in order to take their place!

Speaking of which, Southland continue to lead the newly formed division 6. And, this is a division in which the top 4 teams would be well placed in the three divisions above. So watch out guys they’re a coming!!

Happy reading
Chris
